Radio Cameras
The MMV series is a miniature microwave transmitter designed for use in any highly mobile ENG environment, such as live transmissions from cars, motorcycles, boats and aircraft where its robust weatherproof construction and light weight allow unrivalled versatility. It is however ideally suited to radio camera applications.
MMV series can be specified with integral battery clips to suit most popular brands of ENG camera battery and clips neatly between the camera and the battery with no external DC power connections.
Exceptionally efficient fully embedded MPEG-2 compression and COFDM modulation provides market leading power consumption, typically less than 20W for 0.5W output power, depending on frequency band. This means the transmitter is only ever warm to touch even after several hours of operation and allows for installation in confined spaces when required.
MMV series transmitters are available in all frequency bands from 1.0 to 13GHz, though best performance can be expected in the lower frequency bands where maximum advantage can be gained from the COFDM modulation which works particularly well in highly reflective urban type environments.
Performance can be enhanced further in non line of site conditions by operating the MMV series transmitter with a good quality compatible diversity receiver such as the Giga-Com CRC series which can be specified with 2 or 4 channel maximum ratio combining.
In clear line of site conditions the MMV series, operating with omni transmit and fan beam receive antennas can be expected to work reliably over distances up to 1km, but add on booster amplifiers and directional antennas can extend this range to over 100km given ideal environments such as a helicopter to ground transmission.
The MMV series is typically used as a stand alone uni-directional link for newsgathering but for some applications with a remote a remote programme producer it can be desirable to control the radio camera from an outside broadcast vehicle or MCR, exactly the same as triax cameras.
For these applications the MMV series radio camera can be seamlessly integrated with triax cameras using the Giga-Com companion UHF camera control system comprising an OCP (Operator Control Panel) of similar form factor to standard triax units, 1RU transmitter and camera receive module.
Up to 8 cameras can be wirelessly controlled with the Giga-Com OCP and most camera types can be accommodated. Please check with your Giga-Com account manager at the time of ordering.
