Tripods -

When we were searching the tripod market for something which was light weight and robust enough to be hauled up to the roof or indeed dropped down the side of a concrete building and at the same time durable enough to spend months at a time deployed in all weather conditions we simply couldn’t find a commercially available product.  We therefore developed our own and these are included as standard with our MLV-series microwave links.

Giga-Com tripods are designed specifically for use with portable microwave links, so include the following features not found on the camera derived products often supplied by our competitors:-

-    Eyes for roping down in high winds
-    Fat non slip feet with bolt down holes for semi permanent
     installations
-    Vernier elevation adjustment for fine pointing (optional on
     azimuth)
-    Releasable vernier for fast adjustment such as when tracking
     helicopters or vehicles.
-    Stainless steel or Teflon coated aluminium parts for resilience
to the weather and our feathery friends
-    Carbon fibre legs for light weight and maximum strength.
-    Moulded transport cases designed for easy stacking.

Positioners -

Giga-Com engineers all come from a satellite communications background where it is necessary to direct a satellite dish, sometimes several meters in diameter with pin point accuracy at something orbiting the earth 35,000kms away.

The same pointing software, though somewhat abbreviated and modified has been migrated to the Giga-Com range of STC series microwave antenna positioners.  These are available in one, two or three axis variants.

The STC-1 azimuth (pan) only positioner is ideal for use with our CEO series antennas for central receive applications where the antenna is always pointing to the horizon and no elevation adjustment is necessary due to the beam compensation of the antenna.

The STC-2 incorporates azimuth and elevation adjustment (pan and tilt) and is designed to be mounted on a pneumatic mast, usually on an ENG vehicle.

The STC-3 has azimuth elevation and pole adjustment, for specialist applications, (typically military) where rotation of the antenna about the polar axis is also required such as for fine polarisation adjustment from an inclined position.

All three versions can include GPS and flux gate compass options allowing fully automatic pointing of the antenna, and tracking when required.
